Richard E. Sherman, F.C.A.S., M.A.A.A.President
Mr. Sherman has 35 years of experience as a casualty actuary.
In 1973, Rick began his career as a consultant with Milliman & Robertson, Inc. in Pasadena.
In 1978, he joined the Fireman's Fund Insurance Companies, where he served as Commercial Lines Actuary.
In 1981, he started up Coopers & Lybrand's west coast division of its Casualty Actuarial consulting practice. Over the next ten years he developed that practice into a $4 million a year consulting operation with 3 offices, 14 senior consultants and 25 staff members.
In 1991, he founded the consulting firm, Richard E. Sherman & Associates, Inc., which now serves over 40 clients with a staff of five and annual revenues over $500,000.
In each of his consulting positions, he has served a broad range of law firms, regulatory agencies, public entities, hospitals, corporations, educational institutions, and insurance companies of all sizes. Over his career, his clients have included 28 of the nation's 100 largest insurers. Typical services have been reserve reviews, rate studies, feasibility studies, retention analyses and cost allocation plan reviews. Mr. Sherman has extensive experience in the areas of workers' compensation, general liability, automobile liability, professional liability, reinsurance and excess coverage, multi-peril, property and fidelity/surety.
Mr. Sherman has authored over 65 "Ask A Casualty Actuary" columns in Business Insurance magazine, which has a readership of 155,000. He has also been a frequent speaker at insurance and risk management conferences and has written a number of professional papers and chapters in books on insurance and risk management.
Mr. Sherman is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. He received his M.A. (with High Honors) and B.A. (with Highest Honors) in Mathematics from the University of California at San Diego. |
